Recently, I asked Jon Huxtable at the Leisure Database Company to give me an idea of new UK-based health clubs that have opened during the first few months of 2009. This revealed that the total for the UK for the first three months of this year was…seven.
Four of the seven new openings were new private clubs, while three were new gyms incorporated within public leisure centres.
A total of 59 clubs opened in the UK during the 1992 recession, just to put this latest statistic into perspective.
Clearly, these are very challenging times to be opening clubs and I wish the best of luck to all seven.
