UK Health Club Review 2006

This year has seen frenetic activity in the UK health club market with several large chains seeing a change in ownership. Here is a summary of the big deals:
- London & Regional Properties acquire the 15 Next Generation clubs for £198 million (€294 million euros).
- Bannatyne Fitness snaps up the 24 stand-alone Livingwell clubs for a figure in the region of £90 million (€133 million euros).
- Virgin Active acquires the 47 UK-based Holmes Place clubs for an undisclosed sum, but believed to be up to £175 million (€260 million euros)
- Simon Habali acquires the 54 Esporta clubs for a sum in the region of £475m (€705 million euros) or £8.9 million per club (€13 million euros).
…and finally in late December, Next Generation acquires the Amida spa and health clubs for an undisclosed sum.
